US Sailing Certified Instructors
Englewood Sailing Association encourages volunteers to enroll in the US Sailing Instructor Certification Courses. Upon successful completion, ESA reimburses a portion of the cost of these courses. Currently, there are 4 active US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Certified instructors. That number fluctuates by season and year and has been as high as 10 in the past. ESA is also proud that several of our advanced youth sailors have completed the class and participated in ongoing instruction with Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced students as well as running summer camps. Additionally, ESA appreciates that a significant number of our volunteers have many years of sailing experience and expertise in the world of sailing. US Sailing-certified instructors ensure that our classes are taught safely, effectively and creatively. The 4-day 40-hour course includes classroom and on water teaching techniques, lesson planning, safety issues, risk management and ethical concerns. At ESA, SAFETY is #1. Therefore, much emphasis is placed on safe practices and accomplishing everyone's goals in a safe yet fun environment. As added assurance, all adults who work directly with youth sailors including instructors, must submit to a background check. |
On Water Coaches
We supplement our certified instructors with qualified coach sailors. For our adult programs we have over 20 experienced sailors that are able to coach under the programs developed by our certified instructors. Our youth summer camps are coached by youth who have attended our fall and spring programs and have gone through our spring coaching clinic. We have found that our student coaches accomplish two things: First, they learn more by teaching others and second, kids enjoy peer coaches more than more adult teachers. |
