Englewood's heritage is steeped in sailing and the sea. The earliest settlers' contact with the outside world was from frequent visits by cargo carrying sailing ships that regularly docked at Buchan's Landing at the end of Dearborn Street. These ships not only carried the essentials of life but also the mail and news from the rest of the world.

Today over lives no longer relay on these sailing ships but the character that shaped our community remains.
